Brandon Sweeney, Ph.D.

Brandon Sweeney has spent more than 15 years at the intersection of materials science research and commercial product development — a path that has taken him from graphene electrodes at the Army Research Laboratory and international research in Brazil, to a Ph.D. at Texas A&M, to co-founding a 3D printing startup, to leading materials R&D at a venture-backed advanced manufacturing company through a Series B and SPAC.

His technical work has focused primarily on nanomaterials — particularly carbon nanotubes and graphene — and their application to polymer composites, additive manufacturing, and energy devices. The core insight running through most of his research: that small amounts of the right nanomaterial, processed correctly, can unlock fundamentally different material behaviors. That insight produced the microwave-welding work published in Science Advances, the RF heating results in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and 30+ patents spanning electromagnetic processing, composite systems, and advanced manufacturing.

At Essentium, Brandon built the materials portfolio that supported a Series B and a SPAC — developing high-performance thermoplastic filaments and the FlashFuse electromagnetic welding process while building a research and development team from the ground up. He received the AIChE Polymers in Industry Rising Stars Award in 2020.

He founded Sween Solve LLC in 2025 to bring the same level of scientific depth and commercial pragmatism to a wider range of companies — startups, growth-stage companies, and established manufacturers who need genuine technical expertise connected to real commercial outcomes.
